Our Rating
There's little to like about Sweex's phone other than the fact it's wireless.
The buttons are the worst of any phone here as they are small, uncomfortable to press and lack decent feedback. The monochrome screen displays your contact list, but only one entry at a time, and it takes two seconds to move between each one.
It shuts down the wireless PC connection after 10 seconds of idle time, which saves the rechargeable batteries, but adds another delay as the handset reconnects. The phone is rated to last for 20 hours of standby and four hours of talking, which is the shortest amount of time in the group.
It identifies itself in Skype, Google Talk and Yahoo! and Windows Messenger as a USB audio device, which is confusing if you have any other generically named peripherals plugged in. The USB dongle is chunky, but unlike the Panasonic's dongle it didn't foul the neighbouring ports on our test machine, thanks to an adaptor that lets you use the charging cable as an extension.
Sound quality is the worst here. At the receiving end, it sounded like we were calling hands-free from a carphone. At our end, the signal through the earpiece was raspy.
For a wireless phone, Sweex's Wireless Internet Phone is cheap. However, there is little else to recommend it.
