Galaxy Gear IFA reveal confirmed by Samsung executive

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch is definitely going to be revealed at this year’s IFA show in Berlin, according to a company executive speaking to The Korea Times.
Lee Young-hee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Mobile, said that the smartwatch would be unveiled on the 4th of September, which is the date pencilled in our diary for Samsung’s Unpacked episode 2 event. He confirmed the watch would be powered by Android, but also stated it would not be using the company’s flexible display technology.He described Galaxy Gear as a “wearable concept device”, which could give potential customers some cause for concern. Although it’s widely expected for Samsung to launch the device at retail, this could suggest it isn’t ready for the mainstream and an IFA reveal will merely be proof of its existence.
Current rumours suggest the watch will have a 2.5in, 320×320 resolution display and a dual core processor, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 support for pairing with a smartphone.
The Galaxy Note 3 is also due to make its debut at IFA next week. Samsung’s latest phablet handset is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.3GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and a 5.7in display. News that it may also be able to capture 4K video seemingly backs up these rumours, as that’s currently a feature exclusive to the Snapdragon 800 chipset.
