Packed with features to make brewing simple and efficient, the Vertuo Plus was already a compact and luxurious machine, but now it’s even more attractive thanks to an enormous discount at Amazon.

As mentioned, the Vertuo Plus is carefully crafted with a lot of small features that, together, make your morning cup as efficient as possible. First of all, the capacious 1.2L water tank cuts down on the need for refills, and sits on a swivel that can be placed on either side of, or behind the machine, whichever best suits your worktop.
The pods are particularly clever: each features a barcode that is read by the machine and tells it how much water is needed for the perfect brew. Unlike other machines, the capsule is pierced several times and spun inside the machine, while water is injected into it and infused with the ground coffee inside. The result of this process is a smooth, creamy coffee that doesn’t suffer from the excessive bitterness associated with other brewing methods.
Once finished, the pod is automatically ejected into a conveniently placed used capsule container, which is large enough to hold several days’ worth of empty pods before being easily detached and emptied. The cup platform and used capsule container need to be removed and cleaned by hand (neither is dishwasher safe), but the rest of the machine can be thoroughly rinsed using a cleaning program, which uses three cycles of water to keep the internal mechanisms clean and pristine.

We held off on that fifth star due to the lack of third-party pod compatibility, which ultimately limits the range of drink choices. Still, the pods you do get with it are brewed quickly and conveniently, and the self-cleaning mechanisms keep necessary maintenance to a minimum.
