Save 32% on the MacBook Air at Amazon

£443.13 off the 2018 MacBook Air’s list price

There’s no sugarcoating it: Apple products are expensive, whether you’re looking for a Mac, an iPhone or AirPods. That makes Amazon’s current deal on the 2018 MacBook Air worth a look if you’re in the market for an ultraportable with a decent amount of grunt.

The version on offer – which packs a dual-core eighth-generation i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB of SSD storage – is on sale for £955.87 sold directly by Amazon. That represents a saving of £443.13 on its list price of £1,399.

Yes, it is the 2018 version and we’re very close to ending our dates with the number “20”, but that’s not as worrying as it sounds. While there is a 2019 version of the MacBook Air, it’s a very minor upgrade which leaves the overall performance untouched, adding a True Tone display and updating the keyboard. That’s about it, and while there may be a refresh next year, it’s far from guaranteed, given the line had only seen one minor change since 2015 before this one came along.

Overall, Jon was impressed when he reviewed it, calling it a “MacBook Air for the modern Apple era,” thanks to the introduction of “a better keyboard, a superior touchpad, faster connectivity and a Retina display.”

The trouble, though, is that while it delivers a slim, attractive design, it’s not that much cheaper than the more powerful MacBook Pro. “Instead of delivering what MacBook Air fans desperately wanted – a laptop nearly as good as a MacBook Pro but for significantly less – what they’ve ended up with is a very good laptop that’s nearly as expensive but nowhere near as good.” Jon lamented.

But when you’re saving 32% on the list price, maybe that’s good enough? For Apple fans who want maximum portability, maybe only an Air will do.
