Huawei unveils ‘new’ P30 Pro design with Android 10

At this year’s IFA technology expo in Berlin, Huawei introduced an updated version of its popular P30 Pro handset, including a duo of new, two-tone colours and pre-installed Android 10.

The new colours – Misty Lavender and Mystic Blue – have a two-thirds matte finish, with the remaining third of the phone’s rear surface made up of polished gloss. It’s reminiscent of a Google Pixel in style and finish, and slightly more subtle than Huawei’s other P30 Pro colour variants.

As well as a visual update, the new versions of the P30 Pro will come out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 10 software, based on Android 10. Expect there to be tweaks to the company’s UI alongside a scattering of updates to notifications, location settings and gesture controls.

Given the ban on trade between US companies and Huawei, which prevents the likes of Google rolling updates on anything but existing products, this ‘new’ handset could well be taken as a clever way for the Chinese company to ensure users in the US and Europe are given software updates that come with access to the Google Play store. Whether its a workaround or a matter of coincidence, the refreshed P30 Pro skirts the ban.

The new phone colours aren’t the only thing Huawei brought to show at IFA. The Chinese company also announced its new set of noise-cancelling earphones: the Huawei Freebuds 3 is set to rival Apple’s AirPods. Furthermore, Huawei unveiled its new 5G-integrated chipset, the HiSilicon Kirin 990, which is geared to be incorporated into the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 and existing Mate 30 Pro smartphones.

Originally released in March this year, the Huawei P30 Pro boasts style and durability along with impressive camera quality. It is a thin phone with a sizeable screen size, covering 6.47 inches with a screen resolution of 2,340 x 1,080. Along with being water-resistant, the smartphone contains a very generous battery capacity at 4,300mAh.
