The robot vacuum itself is a very impressive bit of AI-powered kit. On the face of it, the j7 looks like many other robotic cleaners. It’s a familiar puck shape and houses two rubber rollers that rotate in opposite directions, catch dirt and allow it to be sucked up into a 400ml collection bin.

But it separates itself from the competition in a couple of key ways. Its obstacle-detecting camera is built into the front of the robot rather than a turret on top, allowing it to navigate under lower-lying obstacles better than most of its rivals. It’s also able to build a constantly evolving plan of the spaces you set it to clean in, meaning it becomes increasingly efficient over time. It’ll start building a map of the area it’s cleaning from the minute it’s been set up and this is clearly presented in the free companion app via which you control the j7.

Its cleaning ability is impressive, too. In his full iRobot Roomba j7 review, Andy Shaw said: “There’s something about its rubber roller brushes that seems to work very well, agitating carpet, coping with hard floors, avoiding hair tangles and generally doing a superb job of cleaning the floor.” High praise indeed.

Despite this, it was the j7’s collision detection that truly wowed our reviewer. Andy went on to add: “Cables and items of clothing can cause problems for other robot vacuums and I dread to think what might happen if a less intelligent robot came a cropper with dog mess; the Roomba j7 avoids such accidents with aplomb and the upshot is that you can happily set an automated cleaning schedule without worrying that you need to clear the decks before it starts.”

So, if you fancy making your life easier by incorporating a robot vacuum into your cleaning routine, there’s no better time to do it. The iRobot Roomba j7 is one of the best robot vacuums around and more affordable than ever thanks to this Prime Early Access Sale discount.
