Sony announces Bravia X9 4K TV prices for the UK

Sony Bravia X9

Sony has confirmed that its 55in and 65in 4K TVs will be launching in the UK in June, with pre-orders available now from £4,000

Sony has officially opened the books for eager customers to pre-order one of its new Bravia X9 4K TVs here in the UK, with both the 55in and 65in models expected to reach shop shelves by June.

We already know how much the Bravia X9 would cost across the pond, where exchange rates pointed to £3,260 and £4,565 for the 55in and 65in models respectively – although that didn’t take sales tax or VAT into account. Sony has done the maths and will be selling the 55in X9 for £4,000, whereas the 65in model gets a significant price bump up to £6,000.

However, they appear to be the first 4K TVs to launch in the UK below 84in, with LG’s mammoth set costing an eye-watering £20,000. This makes them look like comparatively great value, although there’s still a raging debate over whether 4K makes a difference at smaller screen sizes. We’re firm believers that it does, so this comes as great news to anyone looking forward to the next leap forward in image quality.

Both models use a 4K-ready version of Sony’s X-Reality Pro picture engine, which promises to upscale 1080p content to the full 4k display resolution, sharpening images and bringing out extra detail. They will also include all the features found in Sony’s 1080p TV line-up, including built-in NFC support, second-screen viewing using the SideView app for iOS and Android, the Sony Entertainment Network online portal and Sony’s Triluminos display technology which is supposed to deliver a wider colour palette than competing sets.

We’ll be taking a look at the Bravia X9 as soon as it lands in the UK, so be sure to check back in a few weeks for a full review.
