The Switch has long been one of our favourite games consoles. Nintendo’s portable console received a semi-flawless five-star review from us: obviously, the handheld/docked hybridisation is a massive draw, but so too is the ease with which you can play couch co-op games (like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) just about anywhere. Simply slide the Joy-Con controllers off the console itself, open the kickstand and you can game with a mate on a flight.
We’re also fond of the games library itself. Even four years after launch, Nintendo’s staples – Mario, Link, Kirby and the entire Pokemon franchise – are proving immensely popular. There’s also a growing number of blockbuster titles usually associated with PlayStation or Xbox; Chart-toppers such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim and The Witcher 3 have been ported to largely impressive effect to the Switch.
Our only complaint? Battery life. This is something Nintendo attempted to remedy by releasing a new model of the Switch in 2019, the model you’re getting in this deal. It offers at least an hour or so of extra play, which is valuable time when you aren’t in close proximity to a wall socket or portable charger.
All in all, then, the Switch is an absolute must-have console for just about anyone with a desire to relax in front of a videogame. And don’t forget, you’re getting a Switch staple in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe AND access to online play (and a library of retro games) via Nintendo Switch Online for absolutely nothing.
