The QN85 is part of the same Neo QLED range as the QN90, which received a five-star rating and Recommended award when we reviewed it earlier this year. The two TVs sport very similar specs, though there are a few key differences.

Both are powered by Samsung’s Neo Quantum Processor 4K and use Mini LED technology in their panels, increasing the number of LEDs and bumping up the number of local dimming zones.

However, the Q85A uses an ADS panel rather than a VA-type panel, which means it can’t match the brightness or contrast of its more expensive stablemate but does have wider viewing angles.

In terms of HDR, the Samsung Q85A supports HDR, HLG and HDR10+, the latter being a royalty-free alternative to the widely used Dolby Vision and a staple inclusion on Samsung’s pricier televisions.

And when it comes to gaming, the QN85 matches the credentials of the QN90, which we consider one of the best TVs for gaming in 2021.

There’s a single HDMI 2.1 port that supports 4K resolution at 120Hz and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), while the Auto Low Latency Mode immediately kicks Game Mode into action when a console is detected.

Also present is Samsung’s new Game Bar, which lets you view and tweak various gaming-related settings in one easy-to-access location.
