There is no better budget GPS watch than the Garmin Forerunner 45. Now, for Cyber Monday, this excellent smartwatch is down to a record low price on Amazon, just £99.
Garmin wearables are a great place to start if you’re looking for a running watch, and the Forerunner 45 was a brilliant, affordable choice even at its RRP of £160. Its average selling price on Amazon over the last year has been £133, so this £99 deal really is a steal.
The Forerunner 45 earned five stars in our in-depth review, impressing us with its accurate GPS and heart-rate tracking, Garmin Coach compatibility, and support for ANT+ sensors. We called it “by far the best budget running watch you can buy today, offering an appealing design and a raft of excellent features” which include “the ability to follow structured workouts or even entire training plans from your wrist.”
We also liked the Forerunner 45’s sleek profile, a major improvement on the boxy 35. It’s incredibly lightweight (36g) and 2mm slimmer than the 35 (11.4mm vs 13.4mm), which makes a big difference to how it feels on the wrist.
It doesn’t have much in the way of smart features. There’s NFC or music playback, and also no swim tracking. But those features aside, this watch remains an outstanding buy.
As our running expert Nick Harris-Fry wrote in his review: “Bar the omission of a swimming mode, the Forerunner 45 offers everything you could want in an entry-level sports watch, and in a package that looks and feels great on the wrist.
