Hearthstone - the World of Warcraft-based card battler - is now available worldwide on iPad
Blizzard’s smash hit collectible card game Hearthstone is finally available Worldwide on iPad. The game was originally available for Windows and Mac OS X, and more recently there was a limited rollout to certain regions for final testing, but the long wait is over and Hearthstone is now available to play for those in Europe and the US.
You can download Hearthstone now for your iPad from iTunes
The virtual card game has proved incredibly popular on PC, and was topping the charts for earnings on iPad in its early release regions. It looks fantastic, is quick and easy to pickup, yet offers a good level of depth. The usual battling card game mechanics are somewhat simplified by the set amount of mana (essentially points to cast spells and summon creatures) given out each turn, which streamlines card decks down to just 30 cards.
Yes, Hearthstone is a free-to-play game, but you get an awful lot of free content before spending money will even occur to you. Even then the game doles out plentiful amounts of gold for completing missions (winning games in the main) with which you can buy new cards. To date we’ve spent around £25 on the game, and have more cards and tactical options than we know what to do with.
For those who prefer something a little less competitive at first, there are AI enemies you can practice your skills on, plus there’s an upcoming single-player campaign mode to be released, which will pit your skills against numerous boss characters with special powers, in order to unlock 30 new cards.
Hearthstone is set to be as huge as the game it takes its setting and characters from, World of Warcraft. We look forward to crushing you online soon!
