Whilst it may not have been the great hardware leap forward some fans were hoping for – and Nintendo still hasn’t solved the drifting Joy-Con issue – the Nintendo Switch OLED still takes what made its predecessors great and adds a few impressive new features as well as a number of welcome tweaks. Most notably, the screen is both bigger – 7in up from 6.2 – and, more significantly, is now an OLED rather than an LCD. This change is immediately visible: the Nintendo Switch OLED’s display has wider contrast, improved vibrancy and higher peak luminance.

You also get 64GB of internal storage, which is double the size of the original, housed in a black metal chassis rather than the plastic of the original Switch. The kickstand has also had an upgrade and now runs the width of the console’s rear. Both changes contribute to the Nintendo Switch OLED feeling significantly more robust than its sibling. And the great thing is that these changes haven’t added to the console’s dimensions or weight, meaning the Switch’s potential as a portable console isn’t compromised.
