The Razer Blade Stealth is an ultrabook with real gaming power
The new lightweight Razer offers stellar graphics performance in a portable body
Razer has given its Blade Stealth laptops some true gaming configurations for 2019, underpinned by Intel’s new 10th-gen Ice Lake 10nm mobile processors.
This year’s model has the option of coming equipped with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 discrete GPU, either with a Full-HD or 4K UHD touch display. You’ll have to wait for our hands-on with the Razer Blade Stealth to see how the gaming performance stacks up, but Intel’s rep told us the laptop boasts better graphics than any current Xbox console.
As well as the powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650, the machine comes packing an Intel Core i7-1065G7, coupled with 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of PCIe storage that can be upgraded. Altogether, it spells an impressive gaming machine for a portable form factor – weighing just on the heavier side of the ultrabook stable at 1.3 kg.
A ‘Mercury White’ variant of the laptop forgoes the GTX GPU in favour of Intel’s Iris Plus graphics, and has a smaller 256GB PCIe SSD, but offers the same USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity options. It’s no slouch, either.
Intel’s tenth gen Ice Lake chip can also be tailored for your preference from between 18W and 25W. That means if you’re gaming you can crank it up to the max and enjoy its best performance, while if you’re planning a full day’s word processing, you can dial it back a little and benefit from improved battery life.
At Intel’s press event, the laptop was used to demo Halo Reach, one entry from the forthcoming Halo Master Chief collection. The Iris Plus graphics handled the game with aplomb, consistently delivering 40-60fps. In comparison, a comparable, albeit nameless AMD system – or rather a recording of one – was seen floundering after just a few minutes thanks to overheating.
Prices for the Razer Blade Stealth start at $1,499.99/€1,679.99 (no word yet on UK pricing). The laptops are due to be available from September.
It’s early days, considering the tech show hasn’t even properly kicked off yet, but based on what we’ve seen, we’re pretty confident the Blade Stealth will be one of the highlights of IFA 2019. We’re looking forward to trying it out for ourselves later today.
