Asus TUF Z87 motherboards teased ahead of Haswell launch

Asus has revealed its professional-oriented TUF durable motherboards, which will be ready for Intel's 4th-generation Core processors

Along with its mainstream and RoG motherboards, Asus is gearing up to release a new set of The Ultimate Force (TUF) motherboards designed for high durability and efficient cooling, ready for Intel’s forthcoming 4th-generation processors.

The new Sabertooth Z87 leads the charge with a newly designed set of Thermal Armor (the plastic heat shield that’s meant to direct air flow and keep the motherboard’s more delicate components protected) and a reinforced backplate that should secure the board against bending and bowing when installing expansion cards or fitting an oversized CPU cooler. It’s also protected against dust and debris, for if your PC case lacks any fan filters.

Joining it will be the new Gryphon Z87 – it’s the first Micro ATX motherboard to carry the TUF brand, although it won’t come with the Sabertooth Z87’s dust-deterring bells and whistles out of the box. It will instead be sold separately as the Gryphon Armor Kit, which should provide components with more direct cooling, protection from dust and the board-strengthening Fortifier.

Unfortunately Intel’s embargoes mean we aren’t able to bring you details of CPU support or overclocking potential, and until they are lifted we won’t know about prices or availability either. However, with the Computex trade show in Taipei already earmarked for the reveal of 4th Generation Core, we won’t have long to wait to bring you further details.
