Samsung Galaxy Watch Active now best EVER price

Now is the time to pull the trigger on a sporty Samsung smartwatch

Samsung’s excellent Galaxy Watch Active is one of the best deals this Amazon Prime Day has begun. Until midnight on 14 October, Amazon Prime members can save £60 (versus RRP) on any one of the four available 40mm Galaxy Watch Active colourways – that’s rose gold, silver, black or green, for the unaware.

Since the beginning of this month, the Galaxy Watch Active has been on sale at Amazon for £169, which represents a very respectable £30 saving. As of right now, however, that discount has been doubled for Prime members, bringing the Watch Active down to an astonishing £139, its lowest-ever price. The wearable hasn’t been this cheap since the Amazon Summer Sale earlier this year.

Samsung aficionadoes may point out that there’s a more recent version of the Galaxy Watch Active available, and they’d be right to do so. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 passed through the Expert Reviews Labs earlier this year; our resident wearables writer Alan Martin praised the watch but noted that it wasn’t exactly a huge advance over the original.

The problem,” Alan wrote, “is that the original Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is almost exactly the same product, and can now be had for significantly less.”

With the same unique rotating digital bezel (added via a software update) and a very similar raft of fitness- and notification-tracking features to its successor, Alan’s statement is particularly relevant now: the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is also on offer this Prime Day, but even the base model is £50 more expensive

Simply put, you do not need to pay more. The Galaxy Watch Active is a superb smartwatch that, as our review from last year pointed out, will appeal to anyone already plugged into the Samsung ecosystem. It might not be the ideal candidate for true fitness fanatics, but as an all-round smartwatch, it performs admirably – and looks pretty stylish, too.

It’ll provide the usual array of fitness statistics – tracking steps, calories, heart rate and blood pressure, plus a huge range of workouts – and also allows you to take calls, read notifications, control audio playback and more from your wrist.

It’s not often that we recommend a first-generation product over its successor, but in this instance, you’d be mad not to take advantage of such an impressive saving on an excellent smartwatch. One thing to keep in mind, though: you’ll need an Amazon Prime subscription to make the most of this offer. You can sign up a 30-day free trial via this link.
