Ring Car Alarm, Car Cam and Always Home Cam: Amazon announces new lineup of security products

The new devices include a video car alarm and drone-like security camera for your home

Amazon sub-brand Ring has announced a new line of home and vehicle security products. These include the Ring Car Alarm, Ring Car Cam, Ring Car Connect System and, perhaps most interestingly, the Ring Always Home Cam – an automated security camera that moves around your home like a mini drone.

The Ring Car Alarm is a tiny device that plugs into the OBD port of your car. It detects break-ins, tows and other suspicious interactions, sending a notification directly to your Ring App if it detects a problem. This works in 99% of cars and can link to other Ring devices and Alexa to trigger cameras, sirens and more.

Similarly, Ring’s Car Cam provides support when there’s suspicious activity around or in your car, but has a host of other impressive features too. If there’s a crash, the camera will automatically call emergency services. Moreover, if you’re pulled over by the police, you can say ‘Alexa, I’m being pulled over’ and the Ring Car Cam will automatically start recording.

Complementing the above is the Ring Car Connect – a new piece of software for car manufacturers that alerts drivers to events, sending notifications directly to the owner’s mobile. Connect will also allow you to watch recorded vehicle video footage and even see if your car is locked or unlocked. To begin with, Connect will only be compatible with Tesla cars but will eventually roll out to all manufacturers.

Ring Always Home Cam

Finally, we come to the Ring Always Home Cam. A small, automated home security camera that’ll automatically fly around your home, showing you different viewpoints with just one camera. Yes, that’s right, soon you’ll be able to have your very own spy drone at home.

Unfortunately, Amazon has said you’ll have to wait until 2021 to get your hands on these new devices. When they do arrive though, the Ring Car Alarm will set you back $59.99, while the Car Cam and Car Connect System will cost $199.99. There’s no word on UK prices just yet.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on some new home tech, Amazon has also released a brand new range of Echo Devices – complete with a totally new look – and the new Fire TV Stick Lite most of which are available to preorder from today.
