Google Nest deals: Google Nest Audio (was £89, now £64) 
John Lewis has lobbed a tidy £25 off the impressive Google Nest Audio, bringing it down to an eminently reasonable £64. We deployed a well-deserved five stars in our full-length Google Nest Audio review, praising the smart speaker for its voice recognition functionality and remarkable sound quality.
The Google Nest Audio is an upgrade to Google’s first smart speaker, the Google Home, and boasts a streamlined, sustainable design, covered entirely in a hardy recycled fabric. Spec-wise it’s also had an overhaul, with interior drivers delivering 75% more volume and 50% more bass, and audio quality is rich, full and loud, no matter the genre of tunes you’re blasting. And despite its merits as a standalone speaker, the Nest Audio remains a competent voice-controlled smart speaker that you’ll be able to bark orders to hands-free in your home.
We had small quibbles with the lack of 3.5mm input/output, but it’s a small price to pay for an “absolute crackerjack” of a smart speaker, now with almost 30% off full price. You’ll be able to snap up the device at its knocked-down price in either of its earthly colours, Chalk or Charcoal.
Google Nest deals: Google Nest Hub (was £90, now £45)
Meanwhile, the Google Nest Hub smart speaker is selling for half price at John Lewis. The hands-free, 2nd generation smart speaker is down from its regular £90 to just £45 in the summer sale.
When we reviewed the Google Nest Hub we were impressed with its “Sleep Sensing” sleep tracking functionality, which we dubbed an “ingenious” feature. Using Soli low-energy radar technology, the device handily monitors your sleep quality and consistency and offers you personalised insights into how to improve your sleep, allowing you to optimise your rest. It’s available free as a preview in 2022, with Google hoping to integrate Sleep Sensing into Fitbit Premium throughout 2023 (£7.99/mth or £79.99/yr).
Design-wise, the Google Nest Hub’s enclosure is now made from 54% recycled plastic in a welcome eco-conscious development, and you’ll be able to purchase the device in either its Charcoal or Chalk colours for just £45. The 2nd generation of the smart speaker remains as pared-back as ever, with any plastic panelling now confined to the rear (without wrapping around the glass front’s edges), for a sleek, minimalistic look.
With the smart speaker, you’ll be able to conduct all the usual commands (setting timers, checking the weather, playing music), plus you’ll be able to watch shows and films from a roster of streaming platforms (including Netflix, Disney Plus and YouTube) on the Nest’s 7in screen. You’ll even be able to use it as a digital photo frame (remember those?) thanks to its handy Google Photos integration.
With a whopping £45 shed from its price tag, now is the time to invest in a newly half price Google Nest Hub for all your smarthome (and slumber) needs.
