Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 images leaked AND there are no plans for a Galaxy Watch 2

Dutch site SamMobile has claimed there will not be a second Samsung Galaxy Watch

Images of the Samsung Watch Active 2 have been leaked, if a video from Dutch tech site SamMobile is to be believed.

In the video, the presenters explain that they have received a tip from someone familiar with the development of the forthcoming device. As well as claiming there will be no Galaxy Watch 2, the tipster provided the site with technical specs and images of the Galaxy Watch Active 2.

According to the leaks, the smartwatch will have two different sizes, 40mm and 44mm, and have a design reminiscent of the original Galaxy Watch Active. Indeed, like its predecessor, the leaked images also show that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will not have a rotating bezel ring.

It’ll have a full-colour always-on display and will be sold in three colours: gold, silver and black. The video also claims that the watch will have LTE and Wi-Fi variants, the former boasting a 340mAh battery while the Wi-Fi-only model has a 237mAh unit. SamMobile also claims the smartwatch will have 1.5GB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage.

In terms of software, the watch will reportedly launch with version 1.5 of the One UI. If true, this would be an upgrade from Samsung’s current smartwatches, which currently run 1.0 of the One UI. The leaked images also appear to show that the back of the watch has been redesigned, with a new optical heart-rate sensor that might rival the Apple Watch Series 3.

The display panel will also use Gorilla Glass DX, another upgrade over the original Galaxy Watch Active. The video also reveals that the smartwatch will have a red, circular home/power button, along with a rectangular back button. Whether this is purely decorative or indicates the button has a new, special function is unclear.

The leaks come as a surprise only a few months after the original Galaxy Watch Active went on sale. However, if the Galaxy Watch line of devices has been shelved, it’s possible that the Galaxy Watch Active could be updated sooner than first expected.
