🎶 Tick tock, on the clock, Cyber Monday is coming to a stop. Tonight, at midnight, make sure you get the price right 🎶
OK, that’s enough Ke$ha. Down to business and a couple of cracking Cyber Monday headphones deals on the Shokz Open Fit and Shokz OpenFit 2 Plus. However, before I reveal the deals, it’s important to note that they’re liable to disappear once the curtain falls on Cyber Monday at midnight on 1 December.
Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s talk discounts. My colleague Ben Johnston reviewed the OpenFit 2 and OpenFit 2 Plus for us back in June and deemed them worthy of a five-star rating and Best Buy award at their launch prices of £169 and £179, respectively.
The best open-ear headphones around
He described them as “the best version” of the open-ear, earhook format of wireless earbuds yet, and having also heard them in action, I’m inclined to agree. Thanks to tidy discounts during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, you can pick up these class-leading headphones for just £118 and £144.
To put those prices in perspective, the OpenFit 2 have averaged £160 over the last 180 days, while the Plus model is receiving its first meaningful price cut since launch. Normally, I would point people towards the Plus version as they come with Dolby Atmos and wireless charging support, but in this instance, I feel the less advanced model is the one to go for on Cyber Monday. Of course, those who plan to use the earbuds for watching films at home a lot should probably go with the Atmos-certified pair, but the larger discount makes the other model a more appealing purchase.
Whichever you go for, you’re getting a best-in-breed pair of open-fit headphones that use air conduction to pipe sound into your ears, while ensuring you remain aware of your surroundings. That’s the big draw of open-ear headphones, but the OpenFit 2 possess various other qualities that see them stand out from the competition.
First and foremost, they’re the best-sounding open-fit buds we’ve tested. Speaking about their new dual-driver setup, Expert Reviews’ King of Phones and Prince of Headphones (I’m the King, obviously), Ben Johnston, said: “The sound profile benefits greatly from the extra power, with a more dense mid-range and a greater ceiling for the high frequencies.”
Comparing them directly to their predecessors, which used a single-driver arrangement, he added: “The vocals were much more energetic and impactful on the 2 Plus, with the frantic instruments in the chorus feeling more spread out in a less cramped soundstage.” That broad soundstage is an impressive feat for open-fit headphones, and it can be stretched even wider if you do choose to go for the Atmos-certified OpenFit 2 Plus.
Atmos audio, bumper battery life and more
Atmos is only useful if you’re streaming from a compatible source, but engaging it took Ben’s enjoyment of Napoleon on Apple TV to a new level. “The thundering of hoofbeats and the roar of infantrymen immediately surrounded me, quickly broken by the crack of muskets and boom of cannonfire, starting off to my left and right before crashing into their targets in the centre of the soundstage.” Sounds immersive and very convincing if you ask me.
Other areas of strength for both the OpenFit 2 and 2 Plus are their battery life, which clocks in at 11 hours on a single charge and a total estimated listening time of 48 hours. That’s by far and away the longest we’ve seen from headphones of this variety. Comfort levels and stability and first-rate, too, making these buds a fantastic choice for any form of exercise.
Open-ear headphones aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t get on with silicone eartips and values being able to tune into their surroundings while listening to music, pick up the Shokz OpenFit 2 or OpenFit 2 Plus this Cyber Monday. You won’t regret it.
