Save £70-£84 on the new iPad mini

Apple products seldom get a discount unless they’re soon to be discontinued, but nobody could seriously say that about the fifth-generation iPad mini, given it was only released in March.

And that makes Amazon’s Prime Day deal for the iPad mini particularly tempting, because right now you can save between £70 and £84 on the tiny tablet, depending on which flavour you opt for.

Sadly, the cheapest model – 64GB storage with WiFi only – isn’t discounted, but all three other variants are on the table. The 256GB WiFi model is £73 off at £476, while the two versions that support 4G SIM cards are equally good value: 64GB for £449, or 256GB for £585.

The iPad mini was thought forgotten by Apple, having not seen a refresh since 2015, but the 2019 model brings things up to date with a bang. Not only is it substantially faster, packing the same Apple A12 Bionic chip as found in the iPhone Xs and XR, but it now includes support for the original Apple Pencil, meaning you can doodle away on it with pressure sensitivity.

As Jon wrote in his review: “it takes a popular recipe and updates it, adding more performance and Apple Pencil support along the way.”

And while he was somewhat critical that the design has barely changed since 2015, ultimately he was a fan: “it’s hard to criticise the iPad mini (2019) too much when it’s so superior to its rivals at this size.

“Despite its slightly old-fashioned appearance, it’s still a great tablet. It’s fast, has a wonderful display and is neat and pocketable. I predict that it will sell by the bucketload.”

At this price, it’s certainly worth considering, if you have a Prime account.
