Fresh off the back of making the rather excellent Tab S6 5G compatible, Samsung has more plans for the tablet. All the signs point to a Tab S6 Lite in the works, combining the same form factor and S Pen functionality with more wallet-friendly specs.

Here’s everything we know so far.

While Samsung hasn’t confirmed the existence of a Tab S6 Lite, various bits and pieces have leaked to give us a pretty good picture of the upcoming tablet.

First of all, a device of this name definitely exists. It’s gone through its Bluetooth qualification process, where it’s clearly labelled the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. This listing reveals precious useful information – other than that it has Bluetooth 5.0 support – but when combined with other leaks, a clearer picture begins to form.

Next up, a device with the anticipated model number of SM-P615 cropped up on the Geekbench website, meaning somebody has benchmarked it. According to the leak, the device will pack the Exynos 9611 processor, which is roughly equivalent to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip – backed by 4GB RAM. It’ll run Android 10 out of the box.

Finally, Android Headlines, spilled a fresh tin of Tab S6 Lite-flavoured beans with the picture you can see at the top of this article. As you can see, it looks a great deal like the existing Tab S6, and the site anticipates it’ll be a similar 10.5in form factor – though whether it keeps the current 2,560 x 1,600 resolution is up in the air. It would certainly be a sensible thing to lower if Samsung is looking for savings.

There’s one thing that the picture heavily implies if it doesn’t actually confirm, too. Not only is the S Pen set to be bundled with the tablet, but it’ll probably be magnetically attached to the back as it’s too thick to be tucked away inside the device when not in use. That likely means it’ll retain the wireless charging too, but probably best not to count your chickens before they’re hatched.

Android Headlines’ report stops short of revealing a price, but notes that it “wouldn’t be crazy” for it to sell for $399 or less. That’s around £310 in pounds and pence, but given the original Tab S6 launched at £619 despite its $649 price tag, we’d expect it to be closer to £450 if there’s anything in the report’s speculation.

This is another big unknown, but one thing is pretty clear: if you believe the picture at the top of the page is legitimate, then it’s not far off. Companies don’t take press shots like that until near show time, so we’d expect the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite to launch in the next few weeks.

It’s unlikely to get a big launch event though, given it’s not a flagship Samsung product. Expect it to emerge via a press release before it suddenly appears on store shelves.
