Now TV has today announced its most powerful streaming device yet – the Now TV Smart Box with 4K and Voice Search.

Predictably, the pick-and-mix streaming service is very proud of its new product.

“With 4K and Voice Search the powerful new Now TV Smart Box gets you to your favourite shows faster than ever, allowing you to explore the expanding world of 4K content across our apps,” claims Gidon Katz, the managing director of Now TV.

Katz also adds that Now TV is (very admirably) “ending the struggle with TV inputs” by adding Netflix to all existing and new Now TV streaming devices.

Yep, that’s right, from now on you’ll be able to hop between Now TV Entertainment Pass shows such as A Discovery of Witches and The Walking Dead, and Netflix Originals like Orange is the New Black and Queer Eye.

Netflix will join the list of apps already available on Now TV such as the BBC iPlayer, All4 and the ITV hub.

Naturally, you’ll need a Netflix account to access the content, but you can sign up for a 30-day free trial through your Now TV device. New Now TV products will come with the Netflix app as standard, but you’ll need to download it from the app store on all existing devices.

Now TV Smart Box with 4K & Voice Search: Specs

The new Roku-powered Now TV Smart Box offers 4K Ultra HD streaming at up to 60fps, as well as HDR capabilities. For those unfamiliar with such jargon, you should basically expect a slightly improved picture and greater colour detail.

The new Voice Search tool will enable you to find your favourite shows, films, actors, directors and all the rest of it without so much as lifting a finger (because why would you want to when you’ve already settled in for a cosy night on the sofa?).

Alongside these shiny new features, the new box will retain the capabilities of previous models. These include browsing all the big UK catchup services, live pausing technology, a “night mode” to reduce loud sounds and microSD storage. You can also stream all the standard Freeview channels.

Think of the new product as an attempt to bring Now TV devices up to speed with the latest fad in TV technology: 4K viewing.
