How to watch the Champions League semi-finals: Tottenham Hotspur travel to Ajax hoping to replicate Liverpool’s heroics last night

Tottenham will aim to set up an all-English Champions League Final clash, but Dutch leaders Ajax won't make that task easy

The last time two English teams faced off in a Champions League Final was in 2008 when Manchester United won against Chelsea.

After losing 1-0 at home last week, Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping they can meet Liverpool in the Final when they go up against Dutch side Ajax for the second-leg tonight.

That’s easier said than done because Ajax have been the surprise package of the Champions League after knocking out defending champions Real Madrid and Juventus en route to the semi-final.

If The Spurs need any inspiration it was available in abundance last night as Liverpool pulled off the greatest European comeback of all time to defeat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield after losing 3-0 at the Camp Nou in the opening leg last week.

In comparison, Tottenham Hotspur have their work cut out and the return of striker Son Heung-min – who was suspended for last week’s first-leg – will only bolster their roster.

Live coverage of Ajax versus Tottenham Hotspur from the Johan Cruijff Arena begins at 7pm on BT Sport 2, with kick-off at 8pm.

Ajax versus Tottenham Hotspur: Recap

When the two sides played each other in London last week, Tottenham Hotspur lined up without both frontline strikers Harry Kane (ankle injury) and Son Heung-min (suspension). The latter returns to action tonight, while Kane is still out.

Ajax got a goal in the 15th minute, thanks to Donny van de Beek, but the Spurs did well to ensure there were no further damage done.

Tottenham have had an extra day to prepare for the crucial tie as Ajax beat beat Willem II 4-0 in the final of the Dutch Cup on Sunday. Reduced to nine men, the Spurs lost 1-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The English side have won only one of six Champions League away games since the start of 2018, but they can take consolation from the fact that Ajax are winless in their last three home games.

The Spurs have never been part of a Champions League final, while the Dutch side last reached the Champions League/European Cup Final in 1996.
