Samsung launches The Wall Luxury – its staggering 292in smart modular TV

The smallest The Wall Luxury starts at 73in in 2K resolution, expanding to 292in with an 8K resolution

If you thought Samsung’s The Wall – its modular monster TV set launched at last year’s CES – was the ultimate in viewing luxury, think again.

At this year’s InfoComm in Florida, Samsung announced The Wall Luxury, the next-generation version of Samsung’s modular MicroLED screen that can be tailored to fit any size wall or aspect ratio.

The Wall Luxury release date and price

The Wall Luxury is due to go on general sale globally next month, July 2019. Prices have not yet been announced.

The Wall Luxury size and resolution

The smallest The Wall Luxury starts at 73in in 2K resolution, expanding to a staggering 292in-model with an 8K resolution. All within a bezel-less frame that is just 30mm thick.

The previous The Wall model stretched to a comparatively unassuming 146in size.

The Wall Luxury features

Both models use Samsung’s microLED technology which uses micrometre (µm) scale LEDs. These are not only smaller than regular LEDs, making it possible to cram more into a display, they also emit their own light. This removes the need for any backlight or colour filters, boosting the overall display and making it possible to shrink its thickness further.

The Wall and The Wall Luxury’s MicroLED technology is also said to be extremely durable – Samsung claims the diodes will last for 100,000 hours – and be more power efficient. The Wall and The Wall Luxury are designed to never be turned off, switching to a digital canvas when not in use. This Ambient Mode turns the canvas into digital paintings and photographs that can be used to match your interior or mood.

The Wall Luxury does come with a number of original, more advanced features beyond its larger size when compared to its predecessor. Its runs on an AI picture quality engine called Quantum Processor Flex. This constantly optimises the display scene-by-scene to boost picture quality. It will also analyse image data to automatically calibrate the original lower resolution content to align with whichever modular screen resolution you’ve opted for.

This AI technology, along with Samsung’s Quantum HDR technology, gives The Wall Luxury a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and 120Hz refresh rate. Beyond picture quality, Samsung has partnered with Harman Luxury Audio and Steinway Lyngdorf for high-quality audio.

“Throughout the last twelve months, we’ve closely monitored interior design and technology trends to shape the product planning and development of The Wall Luxury,” said Mark Quiroz, Vice President of Product Marketing for Samsung Electronics America. “We set out to create a product unlike anything else — matching the lifestyle and taste of those looking for the most exclusive and premium visual experiences in their homes.”

The Wall Luxury joins the existing lineup consisting of the original The Wall and The Wall Professional, which launched in January and June 2018 respectively.
