Amazon launches wearable tech section

All forms of wearable technology on sale through Amazon can now be found in a single location

Amazon has launched a dedciated wearable technology store, which will act as a hub for all available and upcoming kit available to buy or pre-order from the online retail giant, as well as provide important details about whether the new gadgets will work with your existing tech.

The new section will include big-name brands such as Sony, Samsung, Garmin, GoPro and Jawbone, but also include smaller brands like Basis, Misfit and Fitbit. A Learning Centre will provide product details, as well as compatibility information, in-depth buying guides, reviews, images and expert recommendations.

“The advances in wearable technology mean that customers can now charge their phone through their clothing, monitor their sleep patterns and even track their pets,” Xavier Garambois, Vice President of EU Retail at Amazon, said of the new channel. “This new store allows customers to find whatever they are looking for in one place – whether that is tracking fitness, staying connected through smart watches or capturing every adventure with wearable cameras.”

“Sales of wearable technology devices have taken off in the last year with many customers already using them on a daily basis,” added Andrew Milliken, Director of Consumer Electronics at Amazon.co.uk. “As well as offering the biggest selection, the focus is also on providing customers with all the information they need to understand these new devices and make the best possible choice.”

With a big name like Amazon throwing its weight behind wearable technology, it should help break down some of the confusion over which gadgets are compatible with which smartphones and make it easier for customers to pick the tech that’s best for them.
