Both the Surface Pro 7 Plus and Surface Pro X are discounted for Prime Day.
The Surface Pro range continues to showcase some of the best examples of 2-in-1 PCs you can buy. That’s not surprising: good things can happen when one company is in charge of both the hardware and software, as Microsoft is here.
They’re usually pretty pricey, of course, but thanks to Amazon’s Prime Day encore, you can get two very appealing models at a deep discount. The Surface Pro 7 Plus is down 43%, reduced from £969 to £549, while the Surface Pro X drops from £829 to £499.
Neither of these comes with the Type Cover, which is essential for turning the tablet into a versatile laptop. Fortunately, the Pro 7 Plus model is 35% off at Amazon, meaning you can get it for £91.49. The Pro X version is not, sadly, but cheaper third-party alternatives are available if you shop around.
The Surface Pro 7 Plus is an enhanced version of the Surface Pro 7 that we gave four stars to back in 2019. This version builds upon it with an 11th-generation Intel Core i5 processor and an improved battery.
The Surface Pro X, meanwhile turns to Qualcomm for a more energy-efficient mobile device. “It’s very slim and light, and it has a big, beautiful display,” wrote our Head of Reviews, Jon Bray, in his review. “Its keyboard, touchpad and stylus function superbly and battery life is excellent.”
But the possible compatibility issues with Windows software that an ARM chip presents left us giving it three stars. “No matter how good the hardware is or how attractive it looks, if you can’t run the software you need to run on it, it’s not going to work for you,” he continued. “So make sure you do your homework before you splash out.”
While Microsoft is expected to unveil new Surface hardware at a special event tomorrow, there’s no way that any hypothetical new products will offer as much value as these two. If you’re looking for a quality 2-in-1 that won’t break the bank, well, look no further.
