Our favourite Surface Laptop Black Friday deal is back – and it’s now even better

surface laptop 4 deal - lead

The Surface Laptop 4 has seen several Black Friday price cuts - but none as good as this

Ultraportable laptops rarely get you much change from a grand or three, so here’s a Black Friday bargain to make you do a double take: Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 4 13.5in with full HD touchscreen, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD – yours for just £754.

Tech retailer AO.com started a mini Surface Laptop 4 price war when it slashed £200 off the usual price of the Ryzen 5 model, bringing it down from £999 to £799 in an early Black Friday offer. Then Currys matched it – and then Argos undercut them both, with a bonkers £789 deal.

That was the lowest price we’ve ever seen for this laptop, until it sold out. At that point AO.com seized the opportunity and lowered the price EVEN FURTHER, to a mind-blowing £754. This is the deal we’ve been hoping for.

What you get for your cash at Argos, Currys or AO.com is the 13.5in R5 Surface 4 in silver (or ‘platinum’) with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage and an AMD Ryzen 5 -4680U processor, plus Windows 11 with free upgrades, and a battery life of up to 19 hours.

Whether you want to describe it as silver or platinum, you’ll agree that this laptop looks absolutely gorgeous. Giving it four stars overall in our in-depth Surface Laptop 4 review, our reviewer said the Surface 4 has “a nicer design than the current holder of the top slot on our best laptops page, the M1 Apple MacBook Air.”

The Surface 4 has the same physical design as the Surface 3: a slim, lightweight laptop that’s beautiful to look at and practical to use. It measures 308 x 223 x 14.5mm (WDH) when closed and weighs 1.27kg, similar to the M1 MacBook Air.

The laptop’s keyboard, touchpad and display are all superb. You get a touchscreen on every model of the Surface Laptop 4, which is more than can be said for the Dell XPS 13 or the M1 MacBook Air. The 2,256 x 1,504 3:2 screen’s “Pixel Sense” IPS display performs well, with excellent colour accuracy and good readability in most conditions.

The Surface Laptop 4 can’t match more expensive laptops on GPU performance, and the battery life could be better. But this a fantastic everyday machine for work and play, and it looks the business. It was an excellent buy at £999, and with these Black Friday deals knocking £200 or more off, it’s now an absolute steal.
