It’s a great time to be a book lover. Amazon Prime Day is in full swing, and that means tonnes of discounts on the Amazon Kindle, the most popular ebook reader on the planet. Each of the three Kindle models is on sale for Prime members, but if it’s value for money you’re after, you won’t do better than this: a £25 saving on the standard Amazon Kindle.

That brings the price down from the lofty highs of £70 to just £45, which marks an all-time low for the latest iteration of Amazon’s cheapest ebook reader. If you’d like to remove adverts, it’ll cost you £10 more – we think this is worth the money.

Although its stablemates have some very appealing tricks up their sleeves, this is our favourite of the three Kindle models. We gave it five stars and a Best Buy award when we tested it late last year; in his review, Jon Bray described the Kindle as “the perfect budget ebook reader”, complimenting the price, the built-in reading light and the Audible audiobook compatibility.

“Although it isn’t quite the cheapest Kindle, the new front light and Bluetooth connectivity mean it’s clearly the best-value Kindle in the range.

If you’re looking for a cheap replacement for your ageing fifth-generation Kindle, then, or perhaps something even older, take my advice and just go out and buy yourself one of these new models. You most certainly will not regret it.” Need I say more?

If the standard Kindle doesn’t take your fancy, you can also save on the other two models, the Paperwhite and the Oasis. The former is currently on offer for £80, down from £120 (or £90, down from £130 if you’d like to remove ads).

The Oasis, meanwhile, is currently benefitting from a £70 discount, meaning the standard 32GB model is now £190; the 8GB model, £160; and the 4G-enabled model, £250.

Of course, you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime member to access these stonking deals. You can sign up for a 30-day free trial using this link.
