If you’ve been tempted by getting smart bulbs for your house, but put off by the high cost of entry, then we have some good news. A Philips Hue smart bulb starter kit is bundled in with an Amazon Echo Dot at the moment, for the super-low price of £60, down from £110. The starter pack contains three colourful bulbs and the smart bridge to connect to your router.

For those that don’t know, smart bulbs behave just like ordinary light bulbs, except they’re connected via WiFi as well as the conventional light switch. That means that you can turn on and off lights via your smartphone, but also via the smart assistant of your choice, be it Google Assistant or Alexa.

What’s more, these versions of the Philips Hue starter kit can turn any colour you can imagine. I’m not just talking about glowing red, yellow or green, but any one of 16 million colours selectable via the accompanying app. Third-party apps can be connected, to make the lighting match your music of your movie experience, too.

One thing you have to be aware of when buying your Philips Hue bulbs: not all light fittings are the same. Fortunately, Amazon has reduced the price of all the starter kits at the same time. This means you can buy lights with GU10 fittings, E27 fittings, or B22 connections.
