We praised the Surface Laptop Go 2 for its combination of “low price with great build quality and supreme usability” in our five-star review earlier this year. This was enough to warrant us naming it our best cheap laptop 2022 at its full price.
Drop the price to £499 and it becomes an even bigger bargain. That’s exactly what Amazon has done for Black Friday, marking a hefty 12% saving on the average price of £570. This is the lowest price the Surface Laptop Go 2 has ever been on Amazon, so we can confirm it’s a genuine deal.
For this low price, you’re getting a stylish and well-specced 12.4in touchscreen laptop with an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD.
In our review, Jonathan Bray loved the way the Laptop Go 2 handled, with a well-built metal chassis that proved surprisingly light. That 12.4in touchscreen might be on the small side, meanwhile, but it’s extremely sharp at 1,536 x 1,024, and a 3:2 aspect ratio gives you more room for manoeuvre than you’d expect.
Performance isn’t an issue here, especially with 8GB of RAM on board. One of our very few criticisms of the Surface Laptop Go 2 was the presence of a 4GB option in the line-up, but that’s not something you’ll need to worry about with this deal.
We were very glad to see Microsoft moving to an SSD rather than the creaky old eMMC of previous models, too. It makes the whole experience of using it far speedier.
