Waterproof Samsung Galaxy S6 Active pictures leak online

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active leak

Samsung's Galaxy S6 goes rugged, adding water, dust and shock-proofing and a bigger battery to its flagship specification

It’s been some time since we’ve seen one of Samsung’s ruggedised Galaxy S Active smartphones – the last one we clapped eyes on was the Galaxy S4 Active in 2013 – but now it seems as though the Galaxy S6 will be getting the Active treatment as well thanks to new pictures that have surfaced online.

Samsung’s previous Active variants have added IP67 waterproofing to its flagship range of handsets, and the latest shots from GSM Arena, which show the front and back of the alleged Galaxy S6 Active handset, certainly looks as though it’s going to be a lot tougher than the glass rear of its non-waterproof cousin. This would make it a great fit for treks out into the wilderness or snorkelling on holiday, but it’s also worth remembering that Sony’s Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact handsets are IP68-rated and offer the same level of protection without the need for a massive, bulky chassis.

You can see it’s still managed to keep the camera and heart rate sensor in the same place as the normal S6, but the loudspeaker has been moved to the rear of the phone. The front home, back and recent app buttons have also been revamped, too, throwing into doubt whether it will have a fingerprint sensor.

According to GSMArena’s unnamed sources, the Galaxy S6 Active will have a 3,500mAh battery, which is much bigger than the S6’s current battery of 2,600mAh, but it will otherwise share a very similar specification. That means you can expect it to have a 5.1in 2,560×1,440 resolution Super AMOLED display, a 14nm Exynos 7420 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

More images of the Galaxy S6 Active have also surfaced courtesy of Evan Blass, otherwise known as well-known tipster @evleaks. What look like official press renderings of the phone, these pictures give us a much clearer idea of what the handset might look like, including its camouflage pattern on the rear.
