Out with the old, in with the Fold
The Samsung Galaxy Fold, the company’s first folding phone, was a tricky beast to recommend at first, given its sky-high price and rough-around-the-edges style.
But, thanks to the arrival of the Galaxy Fold 2, the original is now a lot cheaper. Pre-owned phone specialists 4Gadgets have a hugely appealing Black Friday special where you can knock £100 off the already cheaper prices by applying the code FOLDBF100 at checkout.
That means that you can get hold of a pristine model for £670, an excellent one for £660, a very good one for £640 or a good version for £630.
Given the wear and tear inherent in a folding screen, we’d recommend a pristine or excellent version – the price difference isn’t too great. But whichever you get, you’ll still be covered by a 14-day money-back guarantee and a 12-month warranty.
We haven’t reviewed the original Samsung Galaxy Fold, but it’s a very impressive piece of technology that will still feel pretty powerful today, thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and 12GB of RAM. Its USP, of course, is the fact that while the phone in its folded state has a 4.6in display, when it’s opened up you get a 7.3in tablet in its place. It’s probably the future of smartphones – albeit an early vision of the final, polished version.
Yes, the Galaxy Fold 2 is out and improves on it in many ways – the front screen loses the bezels and it uses ultra-thin glass rather than plastic for the internal tablet – but it will still cost you the best part of £2,000. This is a great way for you to get a taste of the future without paying the Earth.
