Samsung Health event planned for May – just before Apple’s WWDC conference

Samsung Health event invite

Samsung has sent out invitations to an event "all about health" on the 28th of May -just days before Apple's WWDC conference could reveal a new health-focused version of iOS

Samsung has sent out invitations to an event that promises to start “a new conversation around health” later this month – just days before Apple is expected to reveal a new health-centric version of iOS at its own developer conference.

According to Engadget, the May 28th San Francisco invitation came from Samsung’s semiconductor arm rather than Samsung Mobile, meaning the focus could be on new sensors and components rather than retail products, but it wouldn’t be out of the question for the company to reveal a new fitness device.

The Galaxy Gear smartwatch was only around for six months before Samsung introduced it’s successor, but considering the Gear 2 and Gear Fit have only been on sale for a month we would be surprised if the company revealed a replacement so soon.

More likely is that Samsung will focus on a more universal fitness gadget, which won’t rely on a Samsung smartphone for pairing and synchronisation. It was one of our major criticisms of the Gear 2 and Gear Fit, so it would make sense for Samsung to launch a product that more people would be able to use.

Right now, however, it’s unclear what the company has planned. We’ll have to wait until the 28th of May to find out what the announcement will be.
