Nokia 2.4 release date: Price, specs and everything else you need to know
A smartphone that costs less than £100? What’s the catch?
A sub-£100 smartphone is hardly the most alluring of propositions. Assertive marketing campaigns usually do a good job at convincing consumers to fork out wallet-wilting sums on the latest and greatest flagships, but depending on your preferences, there’s often no need to spend lots of money on your next upgrade.
In recent years we’ve seen superb cutthroat choices from the likes of Xiaomi, Honor and Nokia pop up in shops. As it happens, Nokia has just unveiled its newest smartphone lineup for the end of 2020, and the Nokia 2.4 in particular is already shaping up to be a particularly worthwhile purchase – despite costing £99.

Nokia 2.4 release date: When can you buy one?
Alas, we don’t have a specific release date for the Nokia 2.4 just yet. At the unveiling event, Nokia provided an ‘October’ release window, so it could be here in little over a week, or five weeks from the publishing of this article.
Nokia 2.4 price: How much will it cost?
Thankfully, the Nokia 2.4’s launch price is more certain. When it does finally appear in shops, the Nokia 2.4 will cost a paltry £99, which is a mere fraction of the cost of recent handset releases such as the Galaxy Note 20, Sony Xperia 5 II and even Nokia’s own Nokia 8.3 5G.
Nokia 2.4 design: What does it look like?
With a price like that, of course, certain sacrifices have to be made. The Nokia 2.4 is constructed from plastic, rather than more premium materials such as metal and glass, although Nokia says it has a frosted “3D nano-textured rear”, which actually looks rather swish in the press images.
The Nokia 2.4 comes in a choice of three different colours: ‘Dusk’, ‘Fjord’ and ‘Charcoal’ and has a large 6.5in HD+ (1,600 x 720) IPS display with a neat teardrop notch in the top-centre portion of the screen. It charges via micro-USB, has a circular fingerprint sensor on the back (underneath the vertically-aligned dual cameras), supports face unlocking and has a 3.5mm headphone socket. It can also be used for contactless payments via NFC, which is a feature often missing on budget smartphones, as is the IPX2 water ingress protection.
Nokia 2.4 specifications: What’s inside?
Another area where Nokia has dialled things back slightly is in the Nokia 2.4’s core specifications. Inside, you’ll find a MediaTek Helio P22 processor, which is clocked at 2GHz and was recently found powering the Sony Xperia L4. If Sony’s latest budget phone offers any indication of expected performance, then the Nokia 2.4’s processing speeds won’t be particularly noteworthy, although it should do the job for the most part.
The Nokia 2.4 comes with either 2 or 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage, expandable via microSD up to a further 512GB. A large 4,500mAh battery keeps things ticking along which, paired with that lower-resolution screen, should perform well in our in-house battery life test. At my briefing, Nokia said that we should expect two day’s worth of use on a single charge.
Finally, the Nokia 2.4 has a 5MP (f/2.4) selfie snapper, with a 13MP (f/2.2) camera and 2MP depth-sensing unit on the rear. The Nokia 2.4 also has a night mode, as well as the option to adjust the level and style of background blur before and after you capture the image.
