Don’t miss this Amazon Spring Sale TV deal on the five-star Samsung AU9000

You can grab the superb 43in Samsung AU9000 for £359 in the Amazon Spring Sale, which runs until midnight on 29 March

The 43in model of one of our favourite cheap TVs in recent years, the Samsung AU9000, is available for just £359 in the Amazon Spring Sale.

The AU9000 is part of Samsung’s Crystal UHD range and the 43in variant cost £469 when it received five stars and our Best Buy award in 2021. It’s gradually come down in price since then and was retailing for £399 before Amazon’s sales event kicked off at 6pm on Monday, 27 March.

Its current price is the cheapest it’s been directly from Amazon, though we have seen it available for less than £300 via third-party sellers. However, it’s becoming harder and harder to find online, and Amazon’s Spring Sale offer represents the best price you can pick it up for right now.

So, what makes the AU9000 such an attractive affordable TV? Well, for starters, it delivers great picture quality for the money. Its VA panel has decent native contrast, is able to articulate detail effectively in darker scenes, and screen uniformity is good.

Samsung 4K TVs come with Filmmaker Mode as standard and this is very accurate both in terms of greyscale and colours, meaning that content looks very close to how the creator intended it to look.

When watching SDR content, pictures are well-defined, colours look natural and highlights are punchy. Upscaling is impressive too, while the panel handles fast motion relatively effectively.

Switch over to HDR and the AU9000 is able to cover most of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, which is not something that can be said for many other TVs costing similar money. Peak brightness is a little limited and blacks could be deeper but accuracy remains decent and colours are suitably saturated, while support for HDR10+ is a welcome inclusion.

Low input lag and Samsung’s Game Bar are appealing features for gamers, though it’s important to note that the AU9000’s panel is limited to a refresh rate of 60Hz, so doesn’t support 4K@120Hz. This means those with a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X will probably want to look elsewhere, but if you don’t mind gaming in 1080p, Samsung’s Motion Xcelerator Turbo feature can be used to simulate a 120Hz refresh rate.

The AU9000’s other strengths lie in its design and operating system. Its AirSlim chassis is eye-catching and a step above most other sets at this price point, while the Tizen OS provides access to a comprehensive range of streaming services and is very easy to use.

All things considered, the AU9000 strikes a very keen balance between price and performance and remains a worthwhile choice despite its age. Those with larger budgets may wish to consider the newer Samsung BU8500 (2022), which costs £429 for the 43in, but we feel the AU9000 offers better value overall.

Amazon’s Spring Sale runs until midnight on Wednesday, 29 March, so you don’t have long to take advantage of this discount on the AU9000.
