Echo sale: Amazon has just slashed prices across the range

Ahead of Prime Day next month, Amazon has launched an early sale on Echo devices

You can’t help but feel that Amazon is getting a bit twitchy ahead of Prime Day. The retailer has just launched a sale on a number of its Echo devices, even though the Prime Day sale is almost certainly kicking off in the second week of July – mere weeks from now. Perhaps it’s because it just announced a new hands-free calling feature for all Alexa-enabled devices.

But while the frenzied deals bonanza that is Prime Day is available to Prime subscribers only in a bid to entice new customers, we’re very happy to say these discounts are available to all. An Echo sale is never bad news, since the online giant’s range of devices rank among some of the best smart speakers available on the market right now.

The second-generation Amazon Echo has dropped from £90 to £70 – that’s a none-too-shabby saving of 22%. It’s in our best smart speakers round-up, as is the smaller but no less efficient Echo Dot, which has been reduced from £50 to £35.

Other items’ prices have been trimmed more modestly. The Echo Spot, Amazon’s answer to a smart alarm clock that also manages video and phone calls, has fallen from £120 to £100 (a price more befitting, we’d say). The Echo Show, Amazon’s tabletop, tablet-style smart speaker, is now £190, down from £220. Finally, the Echo Input, which acts as a matchmaker between Alexa and your speaker, is £20 down from £35.

Will these prices fall further on Prime Day? We’re hedging our bets at this point. But don’t forget, it’s Father’s Day on Sunday – this could be the ideal gift for your Dad.
