Get a Surface Pro 7 with Signature Type Cover for £779

Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro is already seeing Black Friday discounts

It’s only been out for a month, but the Surface Pro 7 is already seeing a generous discount.
We shouldn’t be entirely surprised, because this is what happened to Microsoft’s new hardware last year – I personally grabbed a heavily discounted Surface Laptop 2 just a month after release: thanks Black Friday.
Anyway, right now at John Lewis, you can get the Core i5/8GB RAM Surface Pro 7 with a free Signature Type Cover for £779. Given this model of tablet without the (pretty much essential) Type Cover goes for £899 on its own this is a very, very good deal.
To me, the i5 version with 8GB RAM is a good compromise – the i3 may lack speed for some people, while versions with more than the 128GB of built-in storage are probably unnecessary thanks to the microSD card support. But if you want more options, it’s worth noting that the Microsoft Store is doing a very similar sale where you have more choice: a £699 bundle including the i3 model, or a i7-toting version for £1,289.
Of course, John Lewis includes a two-year warranty on everything, which is quite the selling point, so if the i5 model suits, then this might be the one for you.
So what of the Surface Pro 7 itself? Well, it’s an iterative update of a very good product. New, faster internals and USB-C support at last, but not much else to report. As Jon wrote in his review: “The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is perfectly serviceable, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a marginal update that fails in any way to get the pulse racing.”
If that ‘steady as she goes’ approach is good enough for you, then this is a very good deal indeed. But if the Surface deals from last year are anything to go by, this won’t last too long, so act quickly if you fancy Microsoft’s latest in your life.
