Acer announces Aspire Switch 10 hybrid Windows 8.1 laptop and tablet

New laptop tablet hybrid runs Windows 8.1 and comes with Office pre-installed

Acer has unveiled the Acer Aspire Switch 10, a hybrid laptop-tablet running Windows 8.1.

The Aspire Switch 10 has a 10.1in IPS touchscreen with a resolution of 1366 x 768. Acer said the display had wide-viewing angles and bright colours thanks to new screen technology.

It comes with up to 64GB of storage and 2GB of memory. The Aspire Switch 10 also has an Intel Atom (Bay Trail T) quad-core processor.

The hybrid-laptop tablet is around 2cm thick with the keyboard attached. As a tablet it weighs 0.59kg or 1.17kg with the keyboard attached. A flexible hinge means the Aspire Switch 10 has four ‘modes’ – laptop, tablet, tent and display. The hinge also has a magnet to keep the screen and keyboard securely locked together.

Acer said that the Aspire Switch 10 has a full keyboard and trackpad with support for Windows 8.1 gestures.

Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 come pre-installed and an optional keyboard dock comes with an integrated 500GB hard-disk. The Aspire Switch 10 also supports AcerCloud, which makes files stored locally on the hard-disk available anywhere.

Acer also announced a few accessories, including the Acer Snap Case to protect the device and a micro USB cable for connecting and charging.

The Aspire Switch 10 will be available in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa in late May with prices around $379 in the US and €349 (£286) in Europe.
