Acer Iconia Tab A100 Honeycomb tablet on pre-order for £300

With its Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablet operating system finished, Google and its partners are going all out to knock the Apple iPad 2 off the top spot. The latest company to get an Android 3.0 tablet onto the shelves is Acer, with its 7in Iconia Tab A100. What’s exciting about this product is that Amazon has a pre-order price of just £300, with the tablet due for release on the 18th April. For an Nvidia Tegra 250 dual-core processor and 8GB of built-in storage that seems like a fairly good deal for anyone that wants a budget tablet. However, we’ll reserve judgement until we’ve seen a review sample. The release date means that the Motorola Xoom will still be the first Android 3.0 product available in the UK, as it goes on sale on April 10th. However, as this costs £500, it’s more expensive than the cheapest iPad 2. Giving the iPad 2 a closer run for its money is the 10.1in Asus Eee Pad Transformer. This clever tablet can dock with a keyboard and will cost £380 when it goes on sale on April 18th.

It’s certainly an exciting time for Google’s mobile OS. Android has overtaken the iPhone as the most popular smartphone OS. It would appear as though Honeycomb could replicate this success for tablets.
