Hudl 2 tablet, which is likely to have a better screen and faster processor, will launch on 3 October
Tesco will unveil its Hudl 2 tablet on 3 October, just over two years after it made its first foray into consumer tech. Earlier this month the company confirmed that the Hudl 2 would launch “in the next few weeks.”
In an invite sent to the press today Tesco coincided with an update to the Hudl website, confirming the Hudl 2 is “coming soon”. The website also suggests that the Hudl 2 will be available in a number of different colours.
People interested in finding out about the Hudl 2 the second it is announced can register their details with Tesco. With the announcement set for 3 October it is likely that the Hudl 2 will be immediately available to order or pre-order. The Hudl 2 is likely to have a better screen and faster processor, although Tesco is unlikely to ditch the budget price.
Tesco had planned to launch a Hudl smartphone, but confirmed it had put the idea on hold earlier this year. The Hudl smartphone would have been a budget 4G handset but plans were shelved when the market became too crowded.
“We were confident that we could offer customers something we saw was lacking in the mobile market: an affordable, quality 4G smartphone,” Tesco multi-channel director Robin Terrell said earlier this month.
“As we developed the idea in the first few months of the year, we could see a gap we could fill for our customers. The technology sector is fast changing and constantly evolving and since then, the mobile market has become even more competitive.”
When the original Hudl launched it was a surprise best-seller, with 400,000 snapped up in its first three months on sale. The Hudl, which was heavily promoted in Tesco stores, went on sale for £119 massively undercutting rival devices including the Nexus 7 and iPad Mini.
