How to watch the Primetime Emmy Awards 2019

Now in its 71st year, the Primetime Emmy Awards showcase the very best of TV, from British newcomers that made their way over the pond (Fleabag) to all-American Amazon originals (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel).

This season marked the curtain call of some of our favourite shows, most notably Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory. Regardless of how you’ll remember GoT’s final season, it was a television masterpiece, so we’re not surprised that it’s nominated for 32 awards.

Apart from Best Drama Series, both Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke are nominated for Best Actor and Actress, while the Best Supporting Actor and Actress category is littered with familiar names from the HBO show, including Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Lena Heady, Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

British series Killing Eve has also bagged some impressive nominations. Both Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh are in the running for Best Lead Actress, while the show is in the running for Best Drama Series.

While HBO leads the awards ceremony with 137 nominations for shows like Game of Thrones, Chernobyl and Veep, streaming service Netflix is close behind with 117 nominations for its series, including Ozark, Russian Doll and House of Cards. Amazon Prime is slowly catching up with 47 nominations this year, including for the aforementioned The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and Fleabag.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, 22 September, at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Live coverage will start at 8pm ET (that’s 23, September, 1am BST) and the event will be broadcast live on FOX in the US. Backstage Live will keep viewers up-to-date on everything that happens off-camera.

How to Watch the Emmy Awards 2019 in the US: Watch on TV or online

There are plenty of ways to watch the 71st Emmy Awards in the US. Fox will be broadcasting the show live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles from 8pm to 11pm ET.
