Comfortable, portable and with excellent sound, Sennheiser has made the ultimate Bluetooth headphones

Sennheiser’s PX 210 BT Bluetooth headphones are similarly designed to the company’s other compact folding headphones. They’re small to start with, and with a few clever folds they can pack away neatly in the supplied carrying pouch. They’re easy to connect to a Bluetooth device, although they don’t provide audio prompts.

Unlike most of the Bluetooth headphones we review, they support the higher-quality aptX codec. While only a handful of phones and MP3 players currently support aptX, it provides audio quality to rival a wired connection. The PX 210 BTs also come with a detachable 3.5mm stereo cable, so you can use them as a standard set of wired headphones if their rechargeable battery does run out. These features alone go a long way towards justifying these headphones’ £90 price.

Although delicately constructed, the headband held the padded over-ear earpieces securely to our ears. They did feel a bit warm after a while, though. We were very pleased to find that there’s next to no sound leakage, even at high volumes, and that we couldn’t hear much ambient noise either.

The headphones’ sound quality is excellent via an aptX or cabled connection. Bass was dominant, but there was plenty of subtlety and detail to be heard in the treble and mid-tones, and nothing became drowned out. Music sources without aptX sounded slightly lacking in bass detail and high treble harmonics, but the difference would be largely unnoticeable to most people.

Controls comprising track skipping, volume and pause/play are located on the right earpiece, and each is very easy to locate by touch. It’s worth noting, however, that unlike most Bluetooth headphones these can’t be used as a headset for calls, as they have no microphone. The PX 210 set is easily the best pair of Bluetooth headphones we’ve ever heard. They’re not ideal for those requiring a secure fit for exercise, but for standard use they can’t be beaten.
