What’s the best TV to buy this Black Friday?
Samsung S95B | RRP: £1,399 (55in)
Given we awarded it TV of the year and also the gong for our overall Tech Product of the Year in 2022, it’s safe to say that we were majorly impressed by the Samsung S95B. Its advanced OLED panel, replete with quantum-dot layers, provides stunning 4K picture quality meanwhile a speedy 120hz refresh rate makes it a top choice for gamers too. Other features like filmmaker mode – which aims to deliver images as their creator intended – make for a reliably strong home cinema experience that can’t be beaten.
LG C2 | RRP: £1,400 (42in)
Another terrific TV from 2022 is the LG C2. The C1 model was the elite buy upon release in 2021 and the follow-up offers just as much quality, producing crystal clear SDR and HDR content. You’ll find even brighter pictures via its OLED evo panel on varieties 55in and above, and it does everything you could want in a TV. It finished as the runner-up in our TV awards for 2022 and is ideal for those after a smaller package given this one comes with a regular OLED panel in sizes as small as 42in.
Sony A80J | RRP: £1,299 (55in)
An alternative mid-ranger for less is the Sony A80J. We described it as a “first-class all-rounder” in our full-length review earlier this year, with the OLED panel delivering impressive clarity, vivid colours and excellent audio quality out of the box thanks to Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ tech. Chromecast and Google Assistant are both built-in to the easy-to-use Google TV operating system, plus there’s support for a number of HDR formats like Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced.
LG C1 | RRP: £1,099 (55in)
Also released in 2021, the LG C1 is another top-line TV that was ripe for a Black Friday discount. Awarded our 2021 TV of the Year award, its detailed, colour-accurate OLED screen looks great from any angle and will appease any gaming film fanatic or boxset binger. In short, everyone should adore its 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate screen while support for Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Modes will keep next-gen gamers happy too. Even LG’s webOS is a winner, being a delight to use compared to most smart platforms.
Samsung AU9000 | RRP: £529 (50in)
It’s not just big-budget TVs that got a Black Friday discount. Our pick of the budget TVs in 2021 was the Samsung AU9000 and it’s now received a discount unlike any it had before. With impressively strong SDR and HDR picture quality for its original price, it’s certainly worth it at this cut deal. We also found input lag to be very low, while its Auto Low Latency and Variable Refresh Rate modes (usually reserved for more costly competitors) prove quality 4K TVs cut out for gaming doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg.
