Apple products are expensive, and the AirPods are no exception. Very rarely discounted at all, even the most minor reduction is worth a look if you absolutely must have the latest Apple gear, which is why this offer on the latest version of the AirPods is worth flagging up.
Right now, you can buy a set of Apple AirPods with the wireless charging case for £169 from Amazon. That’s a saving of £30 on the official RRP of £199.
Notably, that makes them just £10 more than the regular AirPods without a charging case (which sells for £69 on its own), and the advantages there should be pretty obvious. Rather than needing to occasionally dock your AirPods’ case with a lightning cable, you can simply drop it on a wireless charger, and be sure that your faithful earbuds won’t give up the ghost when you most need them.
And of course the jump to the second generation of AirPods brought big improvements on the first version. While they look identical, the new H1 chip means faster pairing, 30% lower latency, faster switching between devices and a 50% boost to talk time. More importantly, they introduce “Hey, Siri” functionality, letting you initiate calls, switch songs, and get directions with the power of your voice alone.
Sound quality remains unchanged, which means they’re good, but fall short of the best true wireless headphones around for pure audiophiles. But in terms of convenience and the way they play nicely with various Apple products, they can’t be faulted. If you want something just as wireless but with better sound quality, you should consider the Sony WF-1000XM3 (£219) or the Libratone Track Air+ (£179), which both boast noise cancellation too.
