The excellent Sony WF-1000XM3 earphones are £50 off at Amazon

Some of our favourite true wireless buds can now be had for under £180

AirPods are popular but – whisper it – the sound quality doesn’t really cut it for obesessive audiophiles. If you’re looking for a good alternative, then Sony has some of the best true wireless earphones you can buy in the fom of the catchily named WF-1000XM3.
They’re not cheap, though, usually retailing for £230. Thankfully, Amazon has seen fit to reduce them by (just) over £50. You can get the white buds for £179, or the black ones for a penny cheaper at £178.99. Every little helps, right?
For those that don’t know, “true wireless” refers to a specific kind of earphone that ditches wires completely. Some wireless earphones have a wire connecting the two earbuds to each other, but true wireless solutions ditch this, with each sitting independently in the ear.
And Sony has struck gold with the WF-1000XM3. As Chris wrote in his review, these are “a marvel to listen to,” providing superb dynamism, excellent noise cancellation and a stable wireless connection to your phone.
“They are, quite simply, the best noise-cancelling earphones and headphones on the market,” he wrote. “The earbuds offer a fun sound signature, a stable wireless connection and have ample amounts of battery life.”
However there are drawbacks that some will want to be wary of. For starters, they don’t offer any sweat or water resistance, which makes them a nonstarter for gym addicts. And if you’re a serious audiophile, you’ll likely find the lack of support for the LDAC codec disappointing.
For everyone else though, these are well worth considering. They won a coveted Expert Reviews “Best Buy” award at full price, and they’re an even easier recommendation with over £50 knocked off.
