Motorola Xoom comes early to UK for £490

Motorola Xoom comes early to UK for £490

Simply Electronics gets the jump on the Dixons group

For the past few weeks we’ve been getting excited about the launch of the first few Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) tablets to go on sale.

Today, the Motorola Xoom has gone on sale for the first time in the UK, a few days earlier than expected. While the Dixons group has the exclusive on the tablet, rival reseller Simply Electronics is selling the tablet for £490, after obtaining its own stock, which was spotted by ITProPortal. At the time of writing, you’d have to be quick, though, as only one unit remained for sale.

The news comes just day after we found out that Dixons had reduced the Xoom price to match the iPad 2 at £480 for a 32GB Wi-Fi model. With the Xoom due to go on sale through Dixons on the 9th of April, the question is, is it worth paying an extra tenner to get it just a few days earlier?

The matter is further confused, by the swathes of other Android 3.0 tablets due out very soon. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is due out on the 18th of April, and will cost £380, while the 7in Acer Iconia A100 will go on sale on 20th April for just £300.
