True surround sound home entertainment systems typically cost an arm and a leg, but you can grab one for under £200, thanks to this Cyber Monday soundbar offer on the Hisense AX5125H.
The AX5125H, which won Value Soundbar of the Year at our Product of the Year Awards in January, is available for a mere £189. That’s £44 cheaper than its average price over the past 180 days (£233), a fraction of the £499 it launched at in 2023, and the most affordable we’ve ever seen it available.
Stephen Withers reviewed the 5.1.2-channel Hisense AX5125H for us at £349. He awarded it five stars and our Best Buy award, categorically recommending it to those seeking an immersive, yet eminently affordable soundbar setup.
I have to admit I was sceptical when I saw how little Hisense was asking for a soundbar, discrete subwoofer and rear speakers. However, the Chinese brand proved me wrong by delivering excellent Dolby Atmos and DTS:X experiences across a wide range of test material.
For a soundbar at this price to support both of those object-based audio formats is impressive enough, but articulating them with such skill is truly a feat. Withers described the output from the system’s nine speakers as “tonally balanced and generally well-balanced”, highlighting that the inclusion of a dedicated centre channel “ensures dialogue remains clear and focused on the screen, never getting swamped by all of the other channels.”
He also praised the selection of sound modes, which include Movie, Music, Game, Night and AI, and commended the AX5125’s ability to position Atmos height effects via its up-firing speakers. Discussing his experience while watching the World War II epic Midway, the now-retired audio expert said: “Planes flew around the room, flak peppered the air with percussive thumps, and bullets strafed from front to back.”
Stephen also found the AX5125H a surprisingly capable performer with music, which is typically an area of weakness for soundbars. “Listening to Suede’s Still Life in two-channel revealed plenty of width and epic sweep to the overall delivery, from Brett Anderson’s plaintive vocals to the soaring orchestral accompaniment. If you dabble in the recent trend for Atmos remixes, you’ll also be pleased, and I must say Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon sounded great, with plenty of added dimension and some well-placed sound effects.”
The AX5125H can’t quite create the full bubble of sound that pricier options like the Samsung HW-Q990F can, nor is its subwoofer able to dig as deep as one might ideally like. However, for what you’re paying in this Cyber Monday deal, these are not things to lose a wink of sleep over. There’s simply no cheaper or more effective way to enjoy true surround sound (both Atmos and DTS:X), and at this price, you’d be crazy to miss out.
