Lenovo updates ThinkPad line-up in time for IFA
Lenovo has revealed its new line-up of Thinkpad laptops and Ultrabooks, ahead of its IFA press conference on Thursday
Lenovo has introduced its latest ThinkPad laptops and Ultrabooks ahead of its IFA press conference on Thursday, giving us an early look at what to expect from one of the world’s largest PC manufacturers.
The ThinkPad T, X and S ranges have all received upgrades, with the highlights looking to be the ThinkPad T440s and T440 Ultrabooks. They are now twenty per cent thinner compared to the previous generation, with Full HD touch on the T440s and HD+ (1,600×900) on the T440. Both include the latest Intel Haswell 4th generation Core processors and new Power Bridge technology to let users swap out external batteries without shutting down, for up to 17 hours of battery life.
Each laptop can be configured with up to 1 terabyte of mechanical storage or high speed SSDs, along with the latest 802.11ac Wi-Fi and optional 4G WWAN networking. Both models will be on sale from November, at £859 for a basic ThinkPad T440 or £1195 for a T440s, although those prices can skyrocket when you start adding RAM or SSD storage.
The ThinkPad X240, meanwhile, is being pitched as “the Road Warrior’s Dream” with a svelte 20.3mm thickness, 1.34kg weight and up to 1TB of storage. It has a 12.5in display which can be configured with a 1,920×1,080 Full HD touch panel, and is powered by the latest Haswell Core processors. It will go on sale from November onwards, at £999 for a basic model and jumping depending on specification.
Finally, the new ThinkPad S440 and S540 laptops might be a little thicker than their Ultrabook counterparts but make room for dedicated graphics cards, 14 (S440) and 15in (S540) displays with the option for Full HD multi-touch panels, up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage depending on the model and, for the S440, rapid charging which can provide up to 80% of a full charge in under 45 minutes for stop-and-go workers. The S440 will start from £881 and the S540 from £899, with both on sale from November onwards.
We are expecting most of these new models to make an appearance at next week’s IFA show in Berlin, so we’ll be sure to head over to the Lenovo stand and bring you our hands-on impressions of them all.
