Huawei Watch GT 2 unveiled in Munich

The GT 2 is Huawei’s next-gen smartwatch and comes equipped with some neat upgrades

Huawei has officially unveiled the Watch GT 2 today (19 September) in Munich. The GT 2 follows on from the brands original GT smartwatch – released last year – and will be available in both 42mm and 46mm versions.

Once again, the smartwatch runs Huawei’s own LiteOS but this time will be powered by the low-power Kirin A1 Chipset. Huawei claims the GT 2 46mm series can run continuously for two weeks with daily use because of the Chipset’s low power consumption and individual processing units, while the 42mm version can run for one week on classic mode.

This claimed run time is with both the intelligent heart rate monitor, call notification functions and nightly sleep mode on, as well as up to 30 minutes of Bluetooth calls, 30 minutes of music playback and up to 90 minutes of exercise.

According to Huawei, further battery improvements have been made in the GPS-tracked sports mode as well, with the 46mm series achieving a battery life of 30 hours, while the 42mm series reaching 15 hours in lab tests.

The Watch GT 2 supports Bluetooth at up to 150 metres, has enough storage for around 500 mp3 files and recognises 15 different sports. According to Huawei, sports data analysis has also been hugely improved to provide users with comprehensive fitness advice, including help with stress reduction.

Design wise, the 46mm version is a similar size to last years, while the smaller 42mmm version has a sleeker crown and no bezel. Both sizes come with a thin, all-in-one ‘3D’ glass screen, which creates the illusion of a wider display.

On the 46mm series you have a 1.39in AMOLED HD touch screen, with a display resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, while the smaller version has a1.2in 390 by 390 pixel display.

At the moment no UK price or release date has been announced but you can keep an eye out on the Expert Reviews site for further updates as we get them.
