This SIM-free Moto G6 Plus deal is an absolute steal

One of the best cheap phones around is now even cheaper

If you were to ask me what phone you should buy if you had roughly £200 to spend, I’d say the Moto G6. If you could go a little higher, I’d say the Moto G6 Plus. At the moment, I don’t even need that caveat, because Carphone Warehouse has slashed the price of our favourite budget handset to a very tempting £209.

That’s £60 off its usual selling price of £269, and it’s actually £10 cheaper than the slightly cheaper (though still brilliant) Moto G6 with its £219 RRP.

The Plus name suggests a phone that’s substantially bigger than the G6, but there’s actually just 0.2in between the two. The improvements are on the inside, and they’re very real. While the vanilla G6 packs a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 460 processor and 3GB RAM, the G6 Plus comes with a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 processor with 4GB RAM.

In layman’s terms, that means you get a decent performance increase: we registered a multi-core performance of 4,184 for the G6 Plus to 3,920 for the regular G6. The extra 200mAh of battery translated into an extra three hours and 11 minutes of battery life too.

But that’s not the only area where the G6 Plus has the edge. The camera also gets a boost, which is quite a big deal given the G6 already offered photos to rival phones at twice the price. The G6 Plus gains a brighter f/1.7 aperture and dual-pixel autofocus, and the faster processor means it’s even capable of shooting 4K video – albeit footage that is capped at 30fps.

The last lines of Chris’ review read: “If your budget is around £300 you won’t find anything better than the Motorola Moto G6 Plus – it’s an incredible phone and deserves all the accolades. Seriously, what are you waiting for? Get out and buy one.”

If that was true at £269, it’s even better advice at £209.
